Wednesday 3rd & Thursday 4th April: Seniors Masters

A competition of contrasts.

Wednesday gave us great golfing weather, warm, dry, and a light breeze.

While Thursday offered just the opposite - a strong and gusting cold east wind, driving rain and generally miserable for playing in.

This produced two days with contrasting leading scores.

Day 1 had 12 players beating nett par with Trevor Roberts leading on an excellent 64.

Day 2 had no one beating nett par. The leading scores being three 71's, one 72 and one 73.

The only person to better nett par over both rounds was the winner Peter Marsh on an aggregate of 137.

Well played Peter. He received his green Jacket by Seniors Captain David Musson (Photos below.)

Second was Ian Walton (141) and third was Graham Fullagar (142).

Also on 142 were Paul Wilkinson and Kevin Crumell.

Lowest Gross score was Kevin Crumell with a total of 160 gross.

As usual a full results sheet can be seen on Master Scoreboard - Click here to view.

Thanks to Graham for organising entries, sorting the draw and producing the results. (photo below)

Some notes on Monthly Medal & Stableford entries and Stamps.

Entry for these competitions is by the use of Stamps. Two stamps must be placed on the entry sheet prior to starting the round of golf.

In core time (usually 8.45 am to 10.15 am)
Stamps are also used as a means of reserving one of the core time slots.

Outside core time
Stamps can be placed on the entry sheet at any time prior to start of round.

If you are unable to play after placing stamps on the entry sheet you should do one of the following:
  • ‘sell’ the slot to another player (change the name on the sheet)
  • inform reception of your non-attendance
  • cross out your name on the entry sheet (or ask somebody else to do this)
If a member of your playing group does not turn up, then after your game you should strike their name from the start sheet if this has not already been done.

This will help the Competitions Committee by them not having to search for a card that is not there

Thursday 21st February: Web Site Survey

Thank you to all who completed our survey. The survey is now closed and the results are in.

If we have your email address and your permission to use it, then you should have received an email with the results attached and an explanation of what we now plan to do.

For those who did not get this email, here is a copy of the email.

You were recently invited to take part in a short survey about the Kirtlington Seniors Web Site.
Thank you to all who responded. The results were generally not only very positive but very helpful in terms of where we go from here.
The results are included in the attached word document, taken from the survey software.
As well as sharing the results we wanted to let you know what we plan to do in light of your feedback and suggestions.

There are several ideas that we are not able to implement due to the limited functionality of the web site software – we are using BT Community Web Kit to produce and host the site as it is free of charge, so we have to live within these restrictions.
• The suggestions that fall into this category are about using the web site in an interactive way for signing up for competitions, matches etc.

There are other ideas that we can’t do exactly, but we can get closer to these than previously.
• An example of this is the suggestion that we have Live course conditions, trolley bans etc. on our site.
We can add a link to take you directly to the page on the main club web site with that information.

There are several suggestions that we intend to implement. So shortly you will see some changes including:
• A page with reminders on course etiquette: fixing pitch marks, raking bunkers etc and suggestions about pace of play and calling people through.
• An ‘old news’ page to collect all of the past years stuff, so it is still there and accessible but not in the way.

Finally we will be changing the order of some of the pages to make the ‘more useful’ pages quicker to get to.

You should see some changes in the next few days and we hope to have them completed over the next couple of weeks.

Thanks again from the web site sub-committee
Ian Walton, David Musson and Stuart Weston

If you would like a copy of the results, then please email Ian Walton

In case you have not seen the notices on the notice board, here is a copy of the note regarding bunkers from Brett - Head Greenkeeper.

We have started renovation work on some of the bunkers. So far some bunkers on holes 5 & 6 have had sand removed and have been reshaped and/or resized. New bunker drainage has been added where appropriate or existing drainage has been cleaned out. Recycled astroturf liner has been added to some of the bases to eliminate sand contamination with stones/dirt.

Weather permitting, we hope to complete remodelling and lining by the end of January. Turfing will then be done and after a period of time allowing the turf to root sand can the be put back in the bunkers, bringing them back into play late March/ early April.

In total about 15 bunkers are due for refurbishment, mainly on holes 5,6,8,10,11,12 and 18.

Thursday 10th January: Stableford

Division 2: 1st - Brian Palmer (41 pts), 2nd - Paul Wilkinson (40 pts), 3rd - Ian Taylor (38 pts)

Ian was helped to his score by two birdie twos on 9 & 16 - well played Ian.
