Monday 15th October: Match v Silverstone Away

A rather wet and unpleasant Monday for our final match of the season. With the Captain away, vice-Captain David Musson led the team to a 4 - 2 defeat which is a good result on a tough course in poor conditions.

Most matches were not decided until the last couple of holes and wins for Bill Keys/Mike Price and Roy Smith/Ian Walton made the score respectable.

The day was enjoyed by all and the result still leaves us with an enviable overall record for the season.

Friday October 12th - Quiz night

A great night was enjoyed by 40 plus members and guests. The quiz was hosted very professionally by Laurie and Lynn Bryant with an excellent range of questions - just the ones to make everyone think "I know that - if only I could remember.......".

Overall winners were Happy Daze with Graham and Sue Fullagar, Chris and Mary Myall and Stuart and Glynis Weston. Looking forward to the next one!

Monday 1st October: Seniors v Vets

A great turnout for the revised format of the annual match. This year we included all who wanted to participate with the age cut-off dependent on the entries.

We had 44 players in 11 4-ball better ball matches under Seniors Captain Stuart Weston and Vets Captain John Duffin. There were some outstanding performances on both sides but the overall result was a win for the Seniors by 71/2 to 31/2. The series is now tied 2 - 2. Who cares? The weather was good, the food was good and an excellent day was enjoyed by all. On to next year!

Thursday 27th September: Seniors Medal

Well played the prize winners who were as follows:

Division 1: 1st - Peter French (65), 2nd - Stan Green (67), 3rd - John Parsons (69)

Division 2: 1st - Paul Craddock (67), 2nd - Les Knight (68), 3rd - Ian Taylor (69)

Peter French recorded the lowest gross score of the day - 79

As usual all results can be found on Masterscoreboard - just click here to get there

Monday 24th September: Match v Naunton Downs at Home

A great day for playing golf with excellent weather and the greens really playing well, and a great way to end our home season with another fine win by 4 - 2.

Wins for Weston/Walton, French/Shaw and Milton/Price were backed up by halves for Smailes/Gordon and Bastable/Mackenzie.

This means we end the season once again unbeaten at home - well done to everyone who has contributed to this superb record.

Thursday 20th September : Match v Feldon Valley Away

Pretty miserable weather with wind and rain for the first time since very early this season.

Unfortunately our golf matched the conditions and we ran out losers by 5 - 1. A great win for Pete Milton and Pete French by 3/2 proved the only bright spot.

Great hosts and and very enjoyable hospitality in their newly refurbished facilities made the day seem much better and we can only do better next year.

Monday 17th September : Roll-up

An excellent turn-out this month with 41 players competing in a Texas Scramble in 11 3-ball and 2 4-ball teams.

Some excellent scores were recorded with four teams returning nett scores under 60.

Winners were Colin Walters/Mike Ashmore/Chris Mackenzie with nett 57.8

Second Ian Walton/Tony Pratt/Larry Blackwell/Paul Craddock with nett 58.5

Third Jim Briden/Chris Basson/Brian Palmer with nett 59.0.

Nearest the pins were Gerry Shaw on the 4th and Chris McNulty on the 16th. Thanks to everyone for making this a very enjoyable day.

Thursday 13th September: Match v Magnolia Park at Home

Good weather again as we welcomed Magnolia Park to Kirtlington. The greens have finally settled down after the autumn treatment and are now playing very well. There was some excellent golf played on both sides but again we ran out clear winners by 41/2 to 11/2. Wins for Weston/Twynam, Darch/Mackenzie, Shaw/Smith and Musson/Lodge with a half for Haynes/Roberts brought in the points.

Monday 10th September: Away Day at Wycombe Heights

We enjoyed an excellent day with fine weather and a testing course set in the hills just south of High Wycombe. Some excellent golf was played and prize-winners were as follows:-

Best 2 of 4: Winners Gerry Shaw/Derek Breaker/David Musson and Jim Briden who scored 93 points with Kevin Crumell/Roy Smith/David Hughes/Paul Rosentall in second with 88 points.

Individual winner was Jim Briden with a fine 40 points followed by Frank Kelley with 37 points.

Tony Whitlock/Stuart Weston/Brian Palmer/Trevor Roberts were the only team to come home with the Yellow Ball and duly took the prize.

Nearect the pin prizes went to David Hughes and Pat Twynam.

Thursday 6th September: Seniors Stableford

Some excellent scores were returned today. Congratulations to the following who won the prizes:

Division 1: 1st - Mike Thompson (43pts), 2nd - Ken Groom (43pts), 3rd Geoff Smailes (39pts)

Division 2: 1st - Roger Ham (41pts), 2nd - Paul Fuller (41pts), 3rd - Paul Wilkinson (38pts)

Tuesday 4th September: Match v Studley Wood Away

Wow! A fine away win at one of the courses we usually find very difficult.

Wins for Stuart Weston/Gerry Shaw, Pete Milton/Roy Smith and David Musson/Clarrie Haynes and a half for Tony Bastable/Brian Palmer gave us an excellent 31/2 - 21/2 win. The course was in fine condition with greens like lightning but some fine golf was played to give us the results.

Tuesday 28th August: Match v Cherwell Edge at Home

Another fine home performance saw us back to winning ways by 5 - 1. Wins for Stuart Weston/Tony Whitlock, Jim Darch/Larry Blackwell, Pete Milton/Clarrie Haynes and Geoff Smailes/Roy Smith were supplemented by halves for Tony Bastable/Bill Brown and David Musson/Chris Mackenzie.

The greens were already better than last week and, hopefully, will settle down quickly now after the weekend rain.

Thursday 23rd August: Team Competition

The team competition too place on this 'empty' Thursday during greens work week.

Teams of three, best two stableford scores to count on each hole. Best 15 holes to count.( allowing for any holes out of play due to greens work.)

Eight teams entered and enjoyed some good golf. All 18 greens were technically in play but putting was something of a lottery, to say the least.

Winners with a fine 77 points were Jim Darch/Peter Dunn/Peter Marsh, closely followed in second with 76 points by Tony Whitlock/Trevor Roberts/Rob James.

Monday 20th August: Match v Waterstock Away

Another good performance by the home players saw our spirited resistance crumble to the tune of a 51/2 - 1/2 loss. Stuart Weston/Geoff Smailes managed a half in a very closely contented Captain's match but that was the extent of our success. The course played well and the buffet was excellent as usual; we'll try again next year!

Tuesday 14th August: Match v Magnolia Park Away

Our excellent winning run was brought to an abrupt end on a much-improved Magnolia course.

There were some very good performances and most of the matches went to the last couple of holes but, in general, the home players had the upper hand. A great win for Pat Twynam (returning to his former club) together with Laurie Bryant gave us our only point.

Seniors Veteran Championships (75 Years & Older)

In the inaugural Seniors Veterans championship (75 years old and over) 14 players took part.

In first place and winning the trophy was Phil Wigmore on 42 Points followed in 2nd place by Norman
Cofield with 39 Points.

Phil pictured receiving the trophy from Seniors Captain, Stuart Weston

Thursday 9th August: Match v Radley Away

Slightly cooler conditions for this one but thankfully the rain stayed away.

The change in weather didn't affect the team performance as we played some excellent golf and ran out winners by 5 - 1.

Wins for Gerry Shaw/Simon Saxton, Clarrie Haynes/Laurie Bryant, Mike Lisseter/Graham Ford and David Musson/Trevor Roberts were backed up by halves for Stuart Weston/Roy Smith and Geoff Smailes/Larry Blackwell to give us a great away win.

Monday 6th August: Match v Drayton Park at Home

Another very warm day with dry conditions saw some very good golf played.

Once again, we managed to prevail against tough opposition and maintain our fine home record.

Wins for Gerry Shaw/Larry Blackwell (dog licence!!), Geoff Smailes/Roy Smith and David Musson/Jim Darch plus a half for Stuart Weston/Clarrie Haynes in the Captain's match gave us a 31/2 - 21/2 victory.

Monday 30th July: Match v Waterstock at Home

Altered conditions today after the weekend rain and some tough pin positions from the weekend Open competition.

However, some good performances led to another good home win by 31/2 to 21/2

Home winners were David Hughes/Chris Mackenzie, Chris Basson/Jim Lodge and Gerry Shaw/Ian Walton while Geoff Smailes/Pete Milton won the vital half point.

Thursday 26th July: Seniors Medal

Congratulations to the prize winners who all came in with excellent scores.

Division 1: 1st - Reg Mitchell (nett 65), 2nd - Chris Basson (nett 66), 3rd Gerry Shaw (nett 66)

Monday 23rd July:Match v Carswell at Home

Another fine day and another fine home win for the Seniors team by 4 - 2.

Home winners were Stuart Weston/Pete French in the Captain's match, Pete Milton/Graham Fullagar, Gerry Shaw/Chris Mackenzie and David Musson/Mike Boniface.

Thursday 19th July: Seniors Roll-up

There were 27 players this month; starting at the earlier time of 0830. The standard was very high in the excellent scoring conditions. The overall winner was David McCullagh with a fine score of 48 points (that handicap will soon be into the real world), Geordie Mawson was second with an excellent 41 points, followed by three players on 39; Les Holmes, David Musson and Gerry Shaw. Dave Basey's score of 38 points brought him the 6th prize.

Tuesday 10th July: Match v Witney Lakes (Away)

A second away win of the season by 31/2 to 21/2 was the result of some outstanding golf by the team today, played in good conditions on a very dry course.

Wins for Stuart Weston/Jim Darch, Geoff Smailes/Gerry Shaw and Pete Milton/Graham Fullagar (all 1up) and a half for David Musson/Chris Mackenzie brought in the points.

The day ended with the traditional raffle taking place.

Thursday 21st June: Seniors Roll Up Stableford

32 seniors entered this month's roll up and were able to yet again enjoy fabulous weather.

The course played tough (again) with many playing above their handicaps.

Well played to all the prize winners who were lead by the following:

1st - Ray Brooks (39 pts): 2nd - Mike price (39 pts): 3rd - Chris Basson (36 points).

A full set of results is available as usual on Masterscoreboard

Monday 18th June: Match (Home) v Aylesbury Vale

The Kirtlington team continued their impressive home form gaining a 41/2 – 11/2 victory.

With the captain and vice-captain away Graham Fullagar took charge but he and Pete Milton lost the

Thursday 7th June : Blake Trophy

Twelve brave Seniors lined up to face The Ladies for the Blake Trophy (and substantial bragging rights).

The Captain and Tony Bastable did the courteous thing and lost the opening match but wins for Ian Walton/Jim Lodge (against Mrs Lodge, very brave), Graham Kelly/Simon Saxton and Laurie Bryant/Trevor Roberts plus halves for Bernie Blanchard/Graham Fullagar and Bill Brown/Derek Breaker gave us a 4 - 2 win and we retained the trophy.

Trevor Roberts won the nearest the pin.

All matches were played in excellent spirits (disregarding reports of stepping on gentlemen's balls) and it was a very enjoyable day.

Monday 4th June 2018: Feldon Valley

A fairly cold and grey day for this home match. The course playing well but the rough was very punishing and caught out several of the away team.

Good wins for Stuart Weston/Geoff Smailes, Mike Lisseter/Jim Lodge, Pete Milton/Bill Brown and David Musson and Ian Gordon gave us a win by 4 - 2. Tony Bastable won the nearest the pin. A special mention must go to Ian Walton who was called into action at the very last minute and joined his match on the 3rd hole. Many thanks, Ian.

The team sheet is up for the match at home to Aylesbury Vale on Monday 18th June.

Graham Fullagar will be our Captain for this match : please support Graham by signing up early.

Tuesday 29th May : Naunton Downs

The rain gods were very kind to us on the day; it was dry all the way round the course and the downpour started just as we left the clubhouse on the way home.

A good away win on this course if only by a narrow 31/2 - 21/2 margin.

Congratulations to all.

Thursday 17th May : Radley

Wins for Stuart Weston/Pete Milton, Larry Blackwell/Ian Taylor, Tony Bastable/Geordie Mawson, Geoff Smailes/Trevor Roberts and Laurie Bryant/Graham Ford.

The team sheet is up Naunton Downs away on Tuesday 29th May. Please sign up early for this excellent venue and note the early start time of 09:30.

Monday 14th May : Memorial Shield

Fine weather and a great entry led to an excellent day of golf and socialising.

We had great pleasure in welcoming Mrs Hawke, Mrs Wood and Mrs Barr, all with members of their families, to help us commemorate those members we lost in the last year. indeed, Steve and Philip Hawke joined us for the 18 hole competition.

In the 9 hole competition we had joint 2nd place with 29 for Trevor Roberts and Geoff Smailes. The winner, on 28, was Pete Milton.

In the 18 hole foursomes, 3rd place went to Larry Blackwell and Colin Walters with 36 points (cb) and 2nd were Ian Gordon and Ray Brooks with a fine 37 points. The winners with an excellent 38 points, and holders of the Memorial Shield for 2018, were Alan Bowers and Peter Dunn.

An excellent team performance gave us a fine win by 5 - 1. A fine result against strong opposition with 3 matches not being settled until the 18th hole.

Thursday 3rd & Friday 4th May: Seniors Masters

After difficult scoring on Day 1 an early lead for John McHarg with a 69, closely followed by Glenn Marshall. John Parsons and Graham Kelly, all on 70. An intriguing second day beckons; what are the odds on a play-off again?

Well, no play-off necessary this year. An intriguing day of good competitive golf gave us a clear winner in Graham Kelly with an aggregate score of 136. Congratulations, Graham!

Excellent second rounds saw Chris Myall in second place with 139 and Geoff Smailes in third on 142 (cb).

Many thanks to Graham Fullagar for the hard work that gave us all two days of well organised competition.

Tuesday 24th April : Cherwell Edge

Back to wet conditions at Cherwell; sadly, not wet enough to stop a fine run of form from the home players. Lots of chips from off the green and several long range putts contributed to our 41/2 to 11/2 loss. An excellent win for Pete French/Clarrie Haynes plus a half for Tony Bastable/Bill Brown completed our scoring. Our next match is at home versus Studley Wood on Tuesday 8th May. Team sheet will be on the notice board on April 26th; please sign up early.

Thursday 5th April: Team competition - best two from three stableford

Played in fine conditions: Sunshine, dry, little wind and warm - this reminded us of what golf should be like!

Unfortunately the field was much smaller than usual due to the carry only situation, which meant that several teams had to scratch.

Eventually 8 teams played. Meaning that only the first two teams received prize money.

The results were as follows:

1st - 80 points - D. Musson, B. Brown, I. Walton (£12 each)

2nd - 79 points - S. Weston, R. Mitchell, G. Fullagar (£4 each)
